Our Story

Denny Finnegan

Rev. Denny Finnegan

I came into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in 1971 through Young Life Ministries. Ever since, it has been a great joy to see Jesus Christ at work in and through my life to influence and affect a wide variety of people for the Kingdom of God. Early on, I witnessed how God seemed to work through my prayers, and have mostly had a high confidence in the work of prayer. I have had great joy in sharing with others in a wide variety of settings, including county, state and federal prisons, how they may become a follower of Jesus, or how they might grow in their personal relationship with Jesus and service for the Kingdom of God. It has been my joy and my delight to serve Jesus, as the Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 4:11-13, “so that the body of Christ may be built up, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

I am a spirit-filled ordained minister who has twenty-five years of full-time practical ministerial experience, and five years part-time experience. I love to help people grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, and to help them be more effective in their witness for Jesus through how they serve Him and serve others.

I believe my core strengths are in teaching, curriculum development, discipleship, training and equipping people for various types of prayer ministry and diverse styles of evangelism and helping people become more mature in their faith. By striving toward the fundamental belief that the key to spiritual growth is through seeking sanctification in Christ (God’s wholeness for us), and through seeking consecration for Christ (God’s Holy purposes for us) as led and empowered by the Holy Spirit, my vision for impacting the church and surrounding community is by teaching the fundamental truths of God’s Word, and equipping the saints for the work of service as Paul writes in Ephesians 4:11-13.

My personal goals are “To be led more by Jesus.  To lead more like Jesus. To lead more to Jesus.“

What some are saying …

Hi Denny:

I very much appreciated your column in the recent CPC newsletter; it gave me a new perspective on prayer. It made me realize that whenever we pray sincerely, Jesus is there with us, joining us in our prayer to God. In fact, maybe the reason the Lord’s prayer begins with “Our Father…” is that whenever we pray it, we are not praying alone, but rather that Jesus is there with us joining us in that prayer to God – so it’s only appropriate that, when we begin that prayer, we (Jesus and me) say “Our” - since there are two together praying to God.

Also, when we conclude our prayers by asking that God hear our prayer “In Jesus’ name…”, Jesus is there with us before God to verify that He agrees with our request and it is His too.

Thanks, Denny…

John
